Selena
She was a singer, performer and designer and broke barriers in the music industry. Her dual character as a Mexican American star was both modern and traditional. She helped bring Tejano to mainstream fame through her ingenuity. Like many times when an incredibly bright and friendly star is lost way too soon the tragic loss of her life caused her to lose the popularity she had been gaining. People mourned the entire extent of the potential that was not fully realized. The result is that fans are enthused over through the years to dig their heels even harder working to make sure her accomplishments won't be lost in the dust. The tragic shooting death of Tejano singer Selena has triggered a response in the Latino community that could be likened to the death of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. The music of Selena, an artist who was hugely success in Latino communities across North America touched people young as well as old. Selena was a sexy, flamboyant performer on stage who was sometimes called her as the Latina Madonna. In her off-stage life, Selena was also an excellent role model since she was active in anti-drug and AIDS campaigning.
